Vilkovir and Matusovsky began their friendship after the artist painted the portrait “Lubasha” (1979, 89 x 60 cm, can). The dark-haired girl in the white embroidered shirt looks at the spectator with her eyes half-closed. The secrets of the girl’s dreams are concealed. This work recalls “The Sunlit Girl” by Valentine Serov. Massive features and patterns on the garment are brought together with a Matisse-like contrast. — N.Musyankova
